Every year Oiva Toikka creates a stunning glass bird for the annual Finn Fest celebration. The 2009 Finn Fest bird, the Alaska Loon, is a vision in white. Its speckled plumage is the result of an accident at the Nuutajärvi glass factory in which workers discovered that dirt left tracery-like marks on the glass. Toikka embraced this supposed defect and incorporated it into the design of his latest glass creation.
The Alaska loon is primarily white, with a teardrop shaped body and a long, graceful neck. Its head is a vivid yellow and its beak is made of metallic blue glass. This lovely combination of color gives this bird a distinctive and spontaneous look. A great piece for any home, the Alaska loon is bound to become a house favorite.
This bird is a limited edition Toikka creation, with only 500 in production. Do not miss the opportunity to make one of these rare birds your very own.
