| Iittala’s Nuutajärvi Glassworks has been creating complex works of artglass for more than 200 years, and for 2007 they have introduced a new designer of glass birds. Giorgio Vigna, an Italian designer and artist has created three spectacular species using his contemporary interpretation of the animal kingdom.
Vigna’s pieces are often sculptural and they carry strong symbolic meanings. Colori, Contrasti and Circoli each use a range of glass techniques from interweaving opaque and transparent glass to using a spectrum of colors to call in light which causes the glass to appear in unique and varied ways.
