Product Information
Aino Aalto’s revolutionary glassware design beat her husband’s entry, esteemed glass designer Alvar Aalto, in the 1932 iittala-Karhula design competition in Finland. Her design later went on to win the gold prize at the Milan Triennale in 1936. Aino Aalto’s glassware is iittala’s oldest product and stands for the epitome of mindmade design.
In the 1930’s Aino’s revolutionary design seemed to have come from the future. She combined honest use of materials and the inevitability of mass-produced processes to create a harmonious design reflective of functionalism and modern production methods. The result is a radically natural glassware as light as air and pure as water (it seems there is no coincidence that Aalto means wave in Finnish).
This charming set includes the Aino Aalto pitcher and four of the large Aino Aalto clear tumblers.
