About Historic Designs
The archaeologic background of the items in the Kalevala jewelry collection can be classified into five categories: The Roman Iron Age 0-400 AD. The Great Migration 400-600 AD, The Merovingian Age 600-800 AD, The Viking Era 800-1025 AD, The Crusades 1025-1300 AD. During the Roman Iron Age, the Great Migration and the Merovingian Age jewelry was made of bronze, iron, silver and gold. The material collected on most of the Viking finds is bronze, whereas the jewelry made during the period of the Crusades was made of both bronze and silver.
One of the most important archaeological excavations in Finland is the area of Luistari in Eura. The site was discovered in 1969 and more than 10,000 finds have been made since. Shop for Kalevala Jewelry.
