Product Information
The 2008 annual bird, Cucunor, is as much a work of the imagination as the poem by which it was inspired. Toikka’s bird gets its name from the Finnish poem, Kukunor and Kalahari, by Lauri Viita. The poem tells the story of two trolls who spend a winter in a professor’s empty summer cottage. There, they discover the wonders of its library, and the rest of the poem is a celebration of imagination, life, and love. The story encapsulates many of the themes that have inspired Toikka’s work, and the name of the 2008 bird pays homage to his inspiration.
Toikka’s Cucunor certainly has a mystical quality. Its plump white body is flecked in pieces of gold, rose, green, and blue glass that capture and reflect light. Upon the body rests its petite head, which is made of clear glass so as not to distract from its beautiful finish. Make this bird a part of your collection and let yourself be swept away by the subtle grace of this imaginative creature.
